At the end of the previous portion, Moses lamented that things had only worsened—Pharaoh did not respond as expected, and deliverance seemed distant. This reflects a common pattern in God’s purpose: circumstances often grow more difficult before breakthrough comes. In this case, Pharaoh’s decree made the Israelites’ labor unbearable, an impossible task that served as an excuse for further cruelty. Yet, even in the struggle, God’s plan was unfolding.
