Don't Relinquish Your Inheritance
“The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness” (Psalm 24:1). The sh’mittah year is the seventh in a seven year cycle. The land is to rest and not be tilled or worked by anyone else during this time. As the Shabbat was to the people, so was this command for the land. Sabbatical year teaches that there is a direct connection between the people and the land. If God is concerned for the land then it matters to Him who dwells within it. The Father set up a covenant with Abraham regarding the land and with his descendants. Throughout the Word the Father is always beckoning His Children to return to what He has set aside for our inheritance as an “everlasting possession.” We are to hold tightly to this as if to never let go (achuzah). The “possessions” of what He has given us is to be passed down to future generations. Never should we consider releasing our inheritance to the vineyard of idolatry.
