A Willing Sacrifice

This portion begins the book of Leviticus. Oldest name is Torat Ha’Kohenim – Instructions for the priests. It focuses on function of the priesthood and duties of priestly nation, i.e. Israel and it gets into a lot of details about how things were to be done. ויקרא Vay’yikra is derived from the first word of the first verse in Hebrew and He called referring to God called Moses to Him to receive instruction. As this book begins, it reveals that the time had come for them to perform ministry that recognized He was among them.
