Living in Egypt

Jan 7, 2023    Bill Cloud

In this closing portion of Genesis, the death of Jacob is recorded. The Bible says that, though he died in a foreign land, he nevertheless “lived” during his time in Egypt. So when it says Vayechi, or "he lived,” it is to stress that his life in Egypt was whole and complete. In other words, the land of his sojourning is when he truly “lived.” We are being provoked by Egypt to "live" and to pass on righteousness and truth to our children and grandchildren and to prepare them for the future. Our eyes and hearts must be attuned to His face and heart and our lives must be filled with His Truth. If this is the case, even in the midst of exile and wickedness, we can live.
