Forgetting to Remember
Mi’ketz is pregnant with prophetic overtones. In this portion we see a pattern for what happens “at the end,” and if a pattern, concepts we must remember as the days grow darker. First thing to note is “At the end of two full years” refers to the fact that two years passed since Jospeh asked the cupbearer to “remember me before Pharaoh.” For another two years, Joseph remained in the prison not knowing if he would get out. In a seemingly hopeless situation, it is easy to grow weary in well doing. Important that Joseph (and Jacob) was willing to submit to what God had ordained. we define things as bad or good based on how they appeal to flesh. As for Joseph, his suffering led to his family being restored in peace and in unity.
